Life towards "New Normal", some news from Sambhali Trust

Finally we are all prepared to resume our work from October 1 by reopening our women and girls empowerment centers both in Jodhpur and Setrawa after a long and difficult phase of 6 months of pandemic. Though, we are concerned about the constantly growing number of positive cases in Jodhpur and resuming work amid such situation will be a challenge, but we have ensured strict compliance of the Covid guidelines prescribed by the government.
Local administration had declared a two days lockdown last weekend and has been constantly running campaigns to spread awareness about the precautions, one need to keep, we also have been following all these precautions and holding training sessions parallelly for our staff and trainers in a run up to reopen our centers. This will be a new normal to integrate in our work now on for all of us until there is any solution to this virus.
As Sheerni Boarding Home girls from standard 9 to 12 are to return from villages to continue their schools, which have been already opened after government’s decision, however, the attendance in the schools is quite low.

Meanwhile, we have continued distributing ration kits in and around Setrawa to 25 families, which we had identified as most vulnerable families even after the lockdown was over. These families had been
found tbe in a condition, where they had been finding difficult to access work and food.
So, we are grateful to all those, who stood by us and supported us during this taxing time in enabling us to accomplish a daunting task. During this period since March 22, we have distributed 2303 ration kits to 591 families across 12 villages including Setrawa, battling the scorching sun and arid desert landscape.

Masks making and distribution also remained continue all through this period. Our sewing teachers and staff of our graduate center upstairs the administrative office, achieved a feat of making 5000 reusable washable masks, which were distributed among local police and administrative officers.

Making sure that the vulnerable communities of the society also practice precaution and have access to masks, Sambhali’s Trustee Mr. Virendra Singh Chouhan, Director Mrs. Vimlesh Solanki, Volunteer Coordinator Ms. Roxanne Naeschen and some of our graduates including Hindi teacher Mrs. Havlesh Kanwar Khichi visited the gathering-spots of mason-workers/laborer every Sunday morning to distribute masks among them and encouraging them to take precautions as advised by the administration.
We are proud that our women have been working hard steadily to prepare themselves for resuming the activities. At our administrative office and graduate center, we have worked hard towards capacity building.

Rashi and Kavita are efficiently working together to strengthen our boutique by working on new product ideas and designs, exploring sale potential and attending to the ongoing orders. A concept of competition among sewing teachers has been introduced with a view to obtain precision, speed and focus in work. We are happy that all of our sewing teachers have fared well in these activities.
Rashi will also be heading our vocational skills training wing with 8 urban (Jodhpur) empowerment centers and 1 rural (Setrawa) empowerment center. Educational empowerment centers, primary education centers and education of both the Boarding Homes will be headed by Rajshree, who along with Govind, is working on fresh recruitment of tutors.
