Last week, Sambhali celebrated International Women's Day.
At
the beginning of the week all the centres took part in some workshops on
women's empowerment, where we explored women's rights and role models.
Beautiful protest posters were made by the women, with slogans they felt were
important such as "Let me live my dream."
On the evening of the 7th
of March, all the students, staff, volunteers and friends of Sambhali Trust, took
part in a march for women's rights. At six o'clock there was a sea of pink as
huge number of women and girls gathered outside the Durag Niwas guesthouse.
The women proudly held up the posters they had been making earlier in the week.
Torches, posters and banners were waved high as everyone marched forward
shouting "Nari Shakti Jindaabaat !" and other empowering slogans.
The energy that everyone had was
incredible, creating a huge amount of noise ! People came out of their houses to
watch, or stopped in their tracks to take videos. As the women of Sambhali where gathered in the town center, at Nai Sarak Circle, some journalists came to interview some members of the organization. The women sang "We Shall Overcome" and the national anthem. The march really demonstrated
the impact that women can have when we stand together !
